Most accounting firms don’t have in-house expertise in the field of Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax and Provincial Sales Taxes meaning that most taxpayers don’t have access to the expertise they sometimes require without going to big firms in major centres and paying the fees that go with them. Savage Tax was founded on the principle that quality Commodity Tax services should be available to everyone at a fair fee.
Clients receive excellent service, quality deliverables and an individualized approach to every project.
About Janice Savage
As a Commodity Tax Professional with more than 20 years of experience in advisory, recovery and compliance services, Janice Savage Cardinali has worked in all aspects of Commodity, or “Indirect”, Tax. Her experience includes working with BGI Benchmark Group in tax recovery, and learning the compliance and advisory practice at two of Canada’s largest accounting firms, Deloitte and KPMG.
Her career has spanned practice areas that include the usual suspects, Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax and Provincial Sales Taxes. In addition to these practice areas, however, she is well versed in matters involving various payroll taxes, Employer Heath Tax, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board premiums and was awarded a national innovation award during her tenure at KPMG for developing a compliance tool to take the pain out of reporting voluntary pension buy back amounts for public sector employers.
Prior to starting her own firm, Janice served to lead the KPMG Indirect Tax Practice in Southwestern Ontario. As a Senior Manager based in Waterloo and London, Ontario, she was in a unique position of completing challenging advisory projects while serving to oversee the quality and reliability of deliverables being prepared for clients.
Over the years, those clients have included a large number of municipalities, hospitals, charities and not-for-profit organizations. Additionally, she has worked with private sector organizations of all sizes from the small family business to the billion dollar multi-national corporation. During her time at KPMG Janice became the national “go-to” for real estate matters and fielded questions from other practitioners from across Canada on the matter.
Giving back to the community is important to Janice who maintains a seat of the Board of Directors and Finance Committee of Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region, serving as Treasurer since 2017. In addition to being a member of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce she was also a speaker at the 8th Annual Inspiring Women event held by the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce. Janice is a volunteer for CPA Ontario’s Financial Literacy Program speaking to groups of various sizes about such matters as teaching children about money, financial literacy for new Canadians and identity theft prevention.
